IV Humanities and Social Sciences
Colloquium on Freak Cultures and Consumptions

This academic meeting aims to promote the sharing of diverse perspectives and innovative visions with regard to objects of study considered usually marginal and alternative, such as cult cinema and TV series, role-playing games, videogames, comics, fanfiction, Cosplay, among other manifestations of mass culture. As Umberto Eco (1968) would say, “the sum of these minimal messages that accompany our daily life, constitutes the most remarkable cultural phenomenon of the civilization in which we have been called to operate. From the moment that it is accepted to criticize these messages, there is no inadequate instrument, and they must be manipulated as objects worthy of the highest consideration “.Thus, these cultural assets can be approached from various theoretical frameworks and disciplinary fields, with the aim of establishing a fertile field of study that involves massive and alternative cultural consumption and, at the same time, the way in which they reflect and build our daily experience as subjects and as intellectuals.

Tentative themes (not excluding):

Various configurations of supernatural creatures
New versions of the fantastic and wonderful
Dystopias, uchronies, future worlds

Call for cultural proposals
While we think about geek studies in direct, personal and permanent relation with its objects, we also call on cultural producers, fan groups, etc. of this field to present artistic, recreational or promotional proposals of their activities within the framework of the colloquium.

Just by way of example, in a non-exclusive way, we contemplate the presentation of proposals of: historical recreationism, role-playing and table games events, presentation of books, projection of audiovisual genre works, fan club stands, cosplay, presentation of video games by its producers or distributors, recitals of thematic bands, etc.

The proposals are made through this form:

Call to rally points
The meeting points are spaces in cinema festivals where the attendees of the event can meet, socialize and share their experience. The rally, on the other hand, is a type of event and rhetorical discourse aimed at organizing and adding adherents to a cause.

The Frikiloquio proposes to organize rally points; that is, spaces of socialization and meeting among the assistants in order to be able to exchange bibliographies, research experiences or institutional participation, doubts, opinions or fears about different disciplinary fields of our common interests, in order to collaborate to create communities of study and promote new research on these issues.

These spaces will be coordinated by people or groups that are already working on the respective themes, which will make a brief introduction to the topic based on their experience, to then open the dialogue to all attendees.

The proposals are made through this form:
