Open Call for Papers,

Vol 1.1 (Winter 2020).Boundaries: Convergence of Media, Technology and Culture.

For the forthcoming issue Boundaries: Kreative; The Journal of Creative Technologies currently seeks submissions that encompass the latest research across Screen, Design and Information Technology studies.

Boundaries originally existed to restrain flows of people, objects, ideas and power. The realms of creativity and technology are also subject to boundaries that limit the flow of knowledge and apply restrictions on the directions of design and artistic endeavour.

Technological advances and globalisation have caused the disruption of conventional means of communication and directly impacted the creative industries.  The objective of this first issue of Kreativ is to explore the disruption of boundaries in various creative and technological contexts.

Technical boundaries are breached when a technology once used for personal communication alone becomes a conduit for mass media. The mobile phone has breached the boundaries of entertainment media, social debate and documentary, and has also encroached on the territory previously occupied by computers.

Cultural boundaries are now breached with greater regularity and with a more permanent convergence of national identities, as the flow of people, ideas and traditions merge into a global multiplicity. The role of boundaries transforms as interactions across borders become opportunities for exploring the nature of blended cultures. This is in stark contrast to the often confrontational opposition of cultures in previous times.

In this first issue we wish to consider the part that boundaries play in an altered world where territories are less defined and to evaluate the implications and outcomes of these disruptions.

Topics to be included, but not limited to, are:

International collaborations in film and their cultural implications
Technologies of IoT and the virtual/real world interface
3D animation, VFX  and live-action film, the effects of VFX on cinema
Gaming culture and its consequence in other media forms
The changing application of mobile applications
When art and code collide in internet design
Social media and the convergence of media, reality and opinion
