The Poetry and Poetics standing session at the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) seeks abstract submissions exploring any aspect of poetry and poetics. We are open to paper topics that encompass a wide range of subgenres, time periods, and critical approaches; in particular, we are interested in papers that engage with the PAMLA special conference theme of "City of God, City of Destruction."
Possible topics related to the conference theme could include, but are not limited to: poetry and the city, or poetry of the city; anti-pastorals; poetry and plague; theories of religious poetics; visions of heaven and social protest poetry; performance and desire; rituals of sacrifice; representations of eternity or illusions of timeless space; poetry and masking, fantasy, and escape; the end of town and the end of time; destruction, post-apocalypse, haunting; exile and longing; depictions of outsiders in the earthly city; among others.
The 2021 PAMLA Conference is scheduled to be held at Sahara Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas, NV (and online) from Thursday, November 11 to Sunday, November 14.
