In recent years, Italy has become a multicultural country. This transformation invited Instructors around the world to start a conversation on how to represent properly in their course curriculum the richness of the cultural and linguistic change within the new Italy. Integrating diversity since the first level of a language class not only foster awareness on the different cultures that influence Italy today, but also create a more inclusive environment for students’ from  different backgrounds so that the feel accepted and encourage to thrive academically. This panel aims to incorporate the teaching of diversity and inclusion in lower and upper level Italian language and culture classes. In particular, the panel welcomes papers that examine and propose strategies and activities to integrate and represent contemporary Italy. How can we incorporate an inclusive vocabulary? What material can be used to represent the different identities of the country? How food and music can disclose the cultural variety of Italy? What approach and activities can be used to reproduce up-to-date Italy in a language class? Participants are encouraged to discuss challenges and solutions to foster inclusivity and diversity since the first semester of an Italian language and cultural class.
