Please consider submitting your abstract to the NeMLA panel "Between Relevance and Acquisition: Big Ideas in the Italian Language Classroom".

This panel calls for papers that will address the role that Italian language courses can play in promoting a space for critical awareness and engagement in the discussion of the most urgent and relevant issues of our time (including, but not limited to: migration and the refugee crisis; climate change; environmental, cultural, economic, and social issues of sustainability; race and gender disparities). Providing practical examples from lesson presentations, assessments, or bigger curriculum projects, presenters will show how addressing timely issues can attract and empower students in the Italian classroom, while providing the occasion for meaningful and effective language acquisition.
