French Eco-Philosopy, Literature, Film, Media (PAMLA)
Palm Springs, CA
Organization: PAMLA
Event: PAMLA
Until around 2010, the scientific and political climate of eco-skepticism thrived in France for various reasons (Posthumous, 2019), leading to a lack of recognition for French eco-philosophy.
However, since 2010, a shift has occurred in the francosphere, with a group of philosophers engaging with ecology through diverse lenses such as evolution, anthropology, psychology, and animal studies. Oftentimes eco-philosophers such as Bruno Latour, Baptiste Morisot, Isabelle Stengers, Vinciane Despret, Philippe Descola etc aim to revive the neglected roots of French eco-philosophy (Simondon, Deleuze, Guattari etc) in order to transcend the traditional nature-culture dualism that underpinned French eco-skepticism.
In this panel, we welcome analyses of literary, visual, cinematic, and philosophical works intersecting with contemporary French eco-philosophy and eco-thinking.
