121st PAMLA Conference
Thursday, November 7 - Sunday, November 10, 2024
Proposals:
Please use the PAMLA CFP page and submission system, which can be found here: https://pamla.ballastacademic.com/Home/CFP.
We welcome paper proposals related to Latin literature and the ancient Roman world. We prioritize the Classics, though Latin literature far outlives the fall of Rome. With that in mind, we invite papers on Latin literature broadly, but especially papers on the Latin literature of the Republic and Empire.
The session invites papers on any topic related to written or spoken Latin literature and language, culture and history, particularly as these relate to the ancient Roman world. Latin has a long reach, and a Classics (Latin) panel embraces literatures of many eras and geographies. This is all the more true in light of PAMLA’s 2024 conference aim to converse about translation, which will naturally consider inter- and cross-cultural engagements with Latin literature throughout time. While we welcome any proposals on Latin literature and culture, we would be particularly interested in learning from studies that engage the conference theme, “Translation in Action,” including papers dealing with:
· The work of translation, including works in progress;
· Translation theory; dynamic versus formal equivalency;
· Theoretical intersections with translation; generic challenges; poetics of translation;
· Pedagogical considerations (reading as distinct from translation)
