Hitchcock's America

In films such as Vertigo, Shadow of a Doubt, and The Birds, Alfred Hitchcock reflects the shifting social and political landscape of America’s post-World War II period.  Whether they be set in urban landscapes or small towns, or filmed against the backdrop of iconic national monuments or simple domestic spaces, these films explore gender roles, urban voyeurism, suburban rot, and the growing power of the national security state, among other themes.  This panel seeks abstracts that utilize any of Hitchcock’s films to explore his construction of “America.”
