The 4th International ELT Conference “New Trends in English Language Teaching, Learning and Education” will be held at Parthenope University of Naples on 9-10 October, 2025.
The event follows the international debate launched by the three editions of the Conference hosted by the University of Naples “L’Orientale” (2022), the “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara (2023), and the University of Ferrara (2024). The fourth International ELT Conference aims to foster ongoing debates on the challenges of language teaching, language learning, and special needs education with a particular focus on English-Medium Instruction (EMI).
Call for Papers
Conference Theme: English-Medium Instruction (EMI) and the Development of Specialized Teaching and Learning Skills
We are pleased to invite submissions for the upcoming 4th International Conference “New Trends in English Language Teaching, Learning and Education” on Empowering Teaching and Learning in EMI, dedicated to exploring the critical teaching and learning skills required for success in specialized content courses. This conference seeks to address the challenges and opportunities in equipping both teachers and students with effective strategies to navigate the complexities of EMI environments, particularly in courses that involve specialized terminologies, discourses, and content.
Key Topics
We welcome contributions that engage with, but are not limited to, the following themes:
1. Teaching Skills for EMI:
- Strategies for effective delivery of specialized content in English;
- Pedagogical approaches to scaffolding complex concepts and terminologies;
- Designing EMI curricula that integrate language and content objectives.
2. Learning Strategies for Students:
- Developing student autonomy in mastering specialized languages and discourses;
- Enhancing students’ comprehension and retention of subject-specific content;
- Fostering critical thinking and problem-solving in EMI contexts.
3. Implementation of Teaching and Learning Strategies:
- Best practices for integrating content and language learning in EMI courses;
- Task-based and project-based learning approaches in specialized domains;
- Utilizing digital tools to support EMI instruction and learning.
4. Specialized Languages and Content in EMI:
- Addressing linguistic diversity in courses with highly technical or specialized vocabularies;
- Cross-disciplinary challenges in EMI: balancing language and content proficiency;
- Intradisciplinary challenges – e.g., legal studies (in English) across different national and supranational jurisdictions;
- The role of academic discourse in student success across disciplines.
5. Assessment in EMI:
- Designing assessments that evaluate both language and content mastery;
- Tools and techniques for formative and summative assessment in EMI courses;
- Addressing fairness and accessibility in EMI assessments.
6. Teacher and Student Development:
- Training programs and resources to prepare teachers for EMI challenges;
- Supporting students’ transition to EMI environments with specialized content;
- Promoting collaborative learning between teachers and students in EMI settings.
7. Global Perspectives on EMI:
- Case studies of EMI implementation across different educational systems;
- Comparative analyses of EMI strategies in diverse cultural and linguistic contexts;
- The impact of EMI on global employability and academic mobility.
Submission Guidelines

Contributions may include:
Research Papers: Empirical studies, theoretical analyses, and case studies;
Workshops: Interactive sessions focused on innovative teaching and learning strategies;
Posters: Visual presentations of emerging research or practices in EMI.
Abstract Requirements:
Word count: 300-500 words.
Language: English.
Format: Include title, author(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address, and up to 5 keywords.
