Across the Caribbean: Literatures, Films and Cultures (NEMLA)
Pittsburgh
Organization: NeMLA
Event: NEMLA
While Spanish is one of the most predominant languages in the Caribbean, the countries of this region are also home to communities who speak French, English, Dutch, and different forms of Creole. Each one of the regions of the Caribbean is also a place of a rich blend of cultural practices and complex sociopolitical realities that political maps often distort. This panel aims to create a space of dialogue for scholars from different area studies (Spanish, French, English, and others) who wish to explore points of contact, contrast and commonality amongst this linguistically and culturally diverse panorama. We invite contributions that explore from this perspective the variegated literatures, cinema, and cultural productions of the Caribbean.
