Workshop on Sigmund Freud
Online
Organization: The Footnote Society (An informal initiative by a group of critical theory enthusiasts)
Sigmund Freud, born in Austria in 1856, was a neurologist who went on to found psychoanalysis, a new approach to understanding and treating mental life through therapeutic dialogue. He developed techniques such as free association and introduced key concepts including transference and the Oedipus complex. Freud viewed dreams as expressions of wish-fulfillment and used them to explore the unconscious, a hidden part of the mind that shapes thoughts, desires, and behaviour. He later proposed a model of the mind made up of the id, ego, and superego, a framework that continues to influence how we think about human psychology. For these contributions and more, Freud is widely known as the Father of Psychoanalysis.
We will explore Freud’s ideas in an intimate group of participants from diverse backgrounds & geographical locations. A small fee of ?350 (for Indian nationals) and £10 (for international participants) will be requested to support the production of workshop.
