The city of Pittsburgh embodies the conference theme of (Re)generation in many ways. Once a powerhouse of the steel industry, the city has transformed itself into a hub for technology, education, and arts, proving that renewal is at its core. Institutions like Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh drive innovation, while restored spaces like the Strip District and South Side breathe new life into historic neighborhoods. Even its rivers—once polluted—have undergone significant restoration, symbolizing environmental regeneration. The city’s literary scene also reflects this theme, with organizations fostering new voices and reviving forgotten stories.

In the spirit of the conference theme, this session welcomes proposals that engage with Pittsburgh as a site of (re)generation and/or that engage with writers associated with Pittsburgh. Such authors might include:

Jan Beatty, Annie Dillard, Sherrie Flick, Kathleen George, Yona Harvey, Jeanne Marie Laskas, Anjali Sachdeva, Damon Young

Please submit papers about John Edgar Wideman or August Wilson to the sessions devoted to them.
