Abstract

The age of Artificial Intelligence has profoundly reshaped human perceptions of reason, creativity, and excellence within digitized environments. As algorithmic systems increasingly influence decision-making, learning, and creative production, perfectionism emerges as a significant human response to technologically mediated standards of precision and optimization. This paper examines the relationship between perfectionism and digitization in the age of AI, focusing on how intelligent systems redefine notions of accuracy, productivity, and ideal performance. Drawing on philosophical reflections on reason, media theory, and psychological interpretations of perfectionism, the study explores how digital infrastructures encourage the pursuit of flawless outcomes while simultaneously narrowing spaces for uncertainty, error, and creative risk. In AI-enabled ecosystems, algorithmic rationality promotes measurable efficiency and consistency, often presenting an appearance of perfect reasoning that contrasts with the inherently imperfect nature of human cognition. The paper argues that this tension produces a new form of digitally shaped perfectionism, where human judgment becomes increasingly aligned with data-driven norms and automated benchmarks. Rather than eliminating imperfection, digitization reconfigures it by transforming human aspirations toward machine-defined standards of excellence. By situating perfectionism within broader debates on digital reason and creative machines, this study highlights the psychological and ethical implications of living and working in AI-mediated contexts. The analysis contributes to interdisciplinary discussions on artificial intelligence, digitization, and human values by emphasizing the need to preserve reflective judgment and creative freedom in an era dominated by algorithmic precision. Ultimately, the paper advocates for a balanced understanding of perfection that acknowledges both the possibilities and the limitations of artificial intelligence in shaping human rationality and creativity.
