OPEN ACCESS BOOK-CALL FOR CHAPTERS: The Film Industry: Contemporary Practices and Global Cultures

Edited by Gopolang Ditlhokwa

This book aims to examine how the film industry is shifting at a moment of rapid technological and cultural change. The authors are invited to focus their chapters on quotidian practices in production, distribution, and creative work, and pay close attention to the conditions that define these activities. This includes the pressures created by digital platforms and the platform economy, changes in labour expectations, and how funding and policy frameworks affect what is possible for filmmakers in different parts of the world. Furthermore, the book aims to give readers a realistic picture of how the industry operates now, without the assumptions that often accompany public debates about film. Instead of treating the film industry as uniform, the authors are invited to trace the specific adjustments that filmmakers, workers, and institutions are making in response to new tools, new audiences, and shifting economic circumstances. Finally, the book positions these developments as signs of longer-term directions that will influence what film becomes in the years ahead.
