Call for Papers - Fall 2026 Issue
Open Call
The Dragon Lode Journal, a peer reviewed publication through the International Literacy Association, is now accepting submissions for Fall 2026. The Dragon Lode is dedicated to literacy, language arts, and the teaching of reading and writing.
We seek original, unpublished work that engages with contemporary issues and questions, genre studies, literary theory, and research related to children’s literature and reading. Submissions may address (but are not limited to):
· Teaching specific novels, picture books, poetry collections, graphic texts, or multimodal works.
· Children’s and young adult literature in K-12 and teacher education classrooms.
· Reader response and student engagement.
· Literature as a vehicle for critical literacy and social inquiry.
· Representations of identity, culture, language, and community in classroom texts.
· International and transnational literature in U.S. classrooms (and vice versa)
· Banned or challenged books and their pedagogical implications
· Literature circles, book clubs, and community reading models
· Digital ready practices and multimodal interpretations of print texts
· Writing in response to literature
· Practitioner inquiry related to literature instruction
We welcome empirical research (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), practitioner research, reflective essays, and classroom narratives that illuminate how books shape teaching and learning.
We invite submissions from educators beyond traditional English/Language Arts classrooms. Librarians, STEM educators, humanities educators, music and arts teachers, social studies educators, and other literacy stakeholders are encouraged to share how children’s and young adult literature informs learning, inquiry, and disciplinary practice.
