Affiliated with the British Association for Chinese Studies (BACS), the British Postgraduate Network for Chinese Studies (BPCS) is an academic network for postgraduate students and early-career researchers in Chinese Studies in the UK. With over 1,000 members, BPCS is one of the largest postgraduate organisations for Chinese Studies in the UK.

We actively promote Chinese Studies by organising annual conferences, seminars, career events, and other academic and professional activities. We also aim to serve as a key source of information on developments in Chinese Studies across the UK and to give members opportunities to connect with peers in their fields.

Available Positions

We are currently inviting nominations for three committee positions:

President: Provides executive leadership for BPCS activities, including the annual conference, and attends BACS meetings as a representative of the community.

Internal Secretary: Works with the President to organise BPCS activities, particularly the annual conference, and assumes the responsibilities of the President in their absence.

External Secretary: Edits and publishes the weekly newsletter, manages BPCS social media accounts and external communications, and works with the President and Internal Secretary to promote BPCS events and activities.

We warmly invite you to nominate yourself for one of these positions. If you would like to nominate someone else, please feel free to share this email and the link https://forms.gle/4Fp34qN9pbwFnZEGA with them.

Application Procedure

Members are invited to nominate themselves or other candidates by completing the https://forms.gle/4Fp34qN9pbwFnZEGA by 04 October 2026.

A confirmation email will be sent once we have received your nomination. We will finalise the list of nominees for each position shortly after the deadline, followed by an election. The results will be announced through the BPCS mailing list by October 2026, subject to the election results and confirmation from the successful candidates.

The newly elected members will take office on 23 October 2026.

Why Should You Consider Joining Us?

Joining the BPCS Committee offers more than an opportunity to strengthen your professional experience. It allows you to become part of an academic community committed to advancing Chinese Studies in the UK.

As a committee member, you will gain valuable networking and organisational experience, have opportunities to develop events related to your academic and professional interests, and contribute to initiatives that benefit the wider Chinese Studies community.

Your participation will help ensure the continuation of the BPCS annual conference, newsletters, seminars, and other regular activities.

We warmly encourage you to consider joining the BPCS Committee and helping to shape the future of our organisation. Together, we can build a supportive and collaborative community for Chinese Studies.

We look forward to receiving your nominations and working together to further the study of Chinese culture and society in the UK.
