« Traversée du Tout-Monde »: a roundtable for Maryse Condé (Roundtable)

French and Francophone / Women's and Gender Studies

Stève Puig (St. John’s University)

Maryse Condé’s œuvre has tremendously impacted our understanding of the French Caribbean and Africa, but also of postcolonial France and the Americas as a whole. In a sense, she is truly « a writer for our times, » as the title of a recent tribute in Paris suggested, since her work illustrates our increasingly globalized identities. This roundtable aims to pay homage to one of the most influential writers of our time and explore the importance of her novels in our lives as teachers and readers.

Please send an abstract (200-300 words) by September 30, 2024 for a 10-15 minute contribution to the round table.

This roundtable aims to explore the many contributions of Maryse Condé to the world of letters. Each participant is encouraged to discuss the impact the Guadeloupean writer had on their scholarship, their teaching and on their understanding not only of the French Caribbean, but also of the human experience in an increasingly globalized world.
