The field of Iberian Studies has been theorized along various —sometimes intersecting, sometimes disparate— conceptual lines. Still, taken together, these lines insist on relationality as a central notion in reconceiving the methods and the materials of Hispanic and Lusophone studies. With this emphasis on relationality, many scholars in recent years have posited and considered the importance of translation and translation studies to the constitution of Iberian Studies and the corpus of texts on which such a scholarly framework ought to bring its attention. This panel seeks to extend this line of inquiry by welcoming proposals that find generative contact between Iberian Studies and the practice or theory of translation. Proposals related to translation between Iberian languages, the book trade and culture industry, institutional/disciplinary history, processes of canonization, etc. are welcome.
